Activate Your Loans NOW

Logon to AidLink

You are now able to activate your 2012-13 loans - Federal Direct Subsidized, Unsubsidized and PLUS Loans. Loans are not automatic. If you wish to borrow some or all of your Federal Direct Loan eligibility, you must complete the loan process online using AidLink.

Postpone Paying Tuition and Fees

Allow 24 to 48 hours

If you qualify to postpone paying tuition and fees as a result activating your loan, allow up to 48 hours for authorization to show in your WebPortal.

If your financial aid, including activated and approved loans, is enough to pay the full amount of your basic tuition and fees (and out-of-state tuition if not a California resident), you will qualify to postpone paying your tuition and fees until your financial aid is available when school begins.

Authorization will take 24 to 48 hours

Within 48 hours after you activate your loan, we will notify WebPortal and Student Account Services if you are eligible to postpone paying tuition and fees.

Allow time for the authorization to show in your AidLink and WebPortal accounts. In AidLink, check the "Tuition and Fee Payment" section.

Out-of-State Students

You are eligible to postpone paying only if your grant, activated student loan, and credit approved Parent PLUS Loan total enough to pay tuition and fees.

Parent PLUS loan approval

To have enough loan funds to pay the full amount of tuition and fees (plus out-of-state tuition if needed), your parent may need to request a Parent PLUS Loan.

Allow up to 2 weeks for a Parent PLUS Loan Request to be processed, which includes a credit evaluation of the parent borrower.

Credit approval is required before a Financial Aid Tuition and Fee Payment Postponement will be authorized.

Payment Options

You must pay your basic tuition and fees before you will be able to register for classes. Before your registration date:

Installment Plan

There are no partial payments or partial postponements other than signing up for the Installment Plan at Student Account Services.

  • Pay your basic tuition and fees following the instructions in the "My Registration" section of your WebPortal.
  • Or, sign up for the Basic Tuition Fee Installment Plan and pay the amount due in three installments, beginning with an initial payment of $800 plus a $60 service charge. Additional information and sign up instructions are in the "Online Services" section of the Student Account Services Web site.
  • Or, have a Financial Aid Tuition and Fee Payment Postponement in place the day before your registration date. Logon to AidLink and review the "Tuition and Fee Payment" section to see if you qualify.
    • Your financial aid, including activated and approved loans must be enough to pay the full amount of basic tuition and fees (and out-of-state tuition, if needed) before we can authorize a postponement.
