Know How Much You Will Owe

University Charges

You need to know the amount you owe and when payments are due for on-campus food and housing, basic tuition and fees, and out-of-state tuition.

Your financial aid award may or may not pay for all of your university charges. If your financial aid is insufficient to pay the entire amount of your university charges for the semester, you are responsible for paying these charges as they become due.

Postponed (Delayed) Payments

You are Responsible for Making the Payments

If your financial aid is unavailable or insufficient to pay the entire amount of your university charges for the semester, you are responsible for paying these charges as they become due.

Any university payment that you postpone (delayed paying until your financial aid is available) will be due when the semester begins.

New Students

  • If you are eligible to postpone paying your tuition and fees, the amount will be deducted from your financial aid award.
    • Logon to AidLink and review the "Tuition and Fee Payment" section to see if you qualify.
  • Will you live on campus and did you make the first payment of $800 when you submitted your Student Housing License Agreement? If you were eligible to postpone that first payment, $800 will be deducted from your financial aid award in addition to other payments now due for the semester.
  • If you postponed paying the New Student Orientation fee, that amount will be deducted from your financial aid award.

Continuing Students

  • If you qualified to postpone paying your tuition and fees, the amount will be deducted from your financial aid award.

On-Campus Housing Charges

On-Campus Housing Payments

Understand how much you owe and when each payment is due.

How many payments will your financial aid award pay?

Refer to the “Fees and Payments” section at the Housing Administration and Residential Education Web site.

  • Download and refer to the “2012-13 payment schedule” to determine the amount you will owe depending on the meal plan and room type (double, single), you requested.
  • In addition to the $800 initial payment, there are 8 more payments due September through April.
  • How many of the payments will your financial aid award pay and what payments must you prepare to make yourself?

This may help you decide how much Direct Loan you should activate and how much your parent may need to borrow from the Parent PLUS Loan program.

Tuition and Fees

For basic tuition and fees, out-of-state tuition, course fees, and payment options, refer to the "Money Matters" section of the class schedule or the Student Account Services Web site.

Out-of-State Tuition

In addition to basic tuition and fees, non-California residents pay $372 per unit.

  • For example, 12 units = $4,464 out-of-state tuition, plus $3,538 basic tuition and fees as an undergraduate student. (Teaching, graduate and doctoral students pay different amounts.)

Financial Aid Award and University Charges

Compare your SDSU Financial Aid Award on AidLink to the university charges you will owe each semester.

  • What amount will your financial aid award pay and what payments must you prepare to make yourself?
  • How much Direct Loan should you activate? Activate your loans now so that funds will be available when you need them.
  • Should your parent borrow a Parent PLUS Loan to help pay university charges and other educational expenses for the year (books, transportation, etc.)?
  • Federal Work Study is paid directly to you according to hours you work each month. Work Study earnings are not applied to your university charges.

If your financial aid is unavailable or insufficient to pay the entire amount of your university charges for the semester, you are responsible for paying these charges as they become due.

Making Payments and the Billing Calendar

Payment information and the billing calendar are located on the Student Account Services Web site.

Take advantage of their Online Services, “Online “Help?” tutorials to learn how to view your electronic bill, pay your fees, sign up for Direct Deposit, create a payment account for your parent, and more.
