Release of Student's Information to Parents or Spouse

Federal privacy laws protecting student rights prohibits the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships(OFAS) from disclosing your personal financial aid information without your explicit authorization.

How to Authorize Release of Information

Go to AidLink to authorize the release of personal information to—

  • Your parents if you were required to provide parental information on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Your spouse if you were required to provide spousal information on the FAFSA

You are under no obligation to authorize release of your financial aid information.

What Your Authorization Allows

Your authorization will allow us to speak to your parents or spouse (as applicable) about any and all information related to your financial aid such as—

  • Any debts owed to the university for overpayment of financial aid
  • Your academic status, including your coursework and grades
  • Your award

What Your Authorization Does Not Allow

Your authorization will not allow your parents or spouse to make any of the following changes to your financial aid record—

  • Update or change your address
  • Cancel your financial aid
  • Correct income or household information

If you do not authorize the release of your personal student information, we may provide only general financial aid information (such as disbursement dates, various program processes, etc.) to your parents or spouse.
