Common Desktop Configuration

In an effort to improve desktop support, Student Affairs supports a common desktop configuration for all client computers. By standardizing the workstations within the division, troubleshooting and repair become easier because each computer is configured in a similar manner. The sections below outline the standard configurations supported by the division.

Backups/Use of File Servers

All users will save their work on a file server, not on their workstation. This ensures that all work is backed up and accessible in case of workstation failure.  The file server will backup each user’s email folder.

Folders of the file server are organized by project, people working on a project will get access to the project folder.  Users will save their work relating to a project in the appropriate project folder.

There will also be personal folders on the file server for each user to be used for saving files not related to a project.
